The timeless beauty of the Braun AW10

The year has only just begun and, as always, time passes much more slowly than in spring or summer.

Let’s make the best of it and revive a classic timepiece that still impresses today with its simple but fantastically purist design by Dieter Rams and Dietrich Lubs.

In 1977, the first Braun wristwatch DW20 was launched, followed a year later by the DW30, both with an LCD display.

But legend has it that both Lubs and Rams were not really satisfied and so they began to work on an analogue concept.

This is led to the 8 mm thick AW 10 with a black protective ring made of glass fibre-reinforced plastic that was created in 1989.

Like all other Braun products, this classic timepiece follows the dogma “less is more” – or, as Rams puts it in one of his ten design rules: “Good design is as little design as possible.”
