The famous Zapf ‚Säulentisch‘ (column table), an early version with slanted edge (probably 1967, later the tables were manufactured with round edges). Repainted in a classic red. Photographed together with the Gaudi Chairs by Vico Magistretti.

Otto Zapf was recently honoured as a ‚Pioneer of german design‘ with an exhibition in his hometown Eschborn, near Frankfurt. In the mid-1950s he was working together with Dieter Rams and founded a company with Danish born Nils Vitsoe (Vitsœ + Zapf). With innovative furniture concepts like modular seating or plastic shelving systems he conquered the international market and worked with companies such as Knoll, Cor and B&B Italia.

He got the largest order in furniture history at the time when 7500 workstations for company ‚Pacific Telephone‘ were equipped with his ‚Zapf Office System‘. His office chair collection for Knoll and the shelving system ‚Management Office‘ for Vitra became also very successful.
