Recordings by Strata-East can be bought blind (if you can find them): a label run by musicians, committed to quality only, starting with the design of the covers and not ending with the use of the finest vinyl, to produce and distribute a version of Jazz that was one of the most uncompromising in the 70s.
This February 13, 1972 recording by Jazz Contemporaries is no exception – two tracks of Spiritual Jazz in a class of its own. Especially the Julius Watkins composition ‚Reasons in Tonality‘ lives up to its name. What a majestic chunk of a track!
