‘Sax & Flute Man’ is a very cool album by James Moody, the man with the particularly warm saxophone sound. Mr. Moody plays tracks like ‘First thing in the morning’ or the hit ‘The world is a ghetto’ by WAR in an equally sparse and funky arranged setup.
Restrained, but groovy. Perfect for having conversations in smoky bars about fruitful intersections of bebop and R&B. Recorded in Chicago in 1973 and produced by Richard Evans, it is one of the countless rather very good albums by bebop pioneer Moody, thus adding a jazzy side to the canon of the more pop/groove oriented Louisiana-based label Paula. Underrated album!
