Bill Evans Trio – Waltz for Debby

Bill Evans Trio – Waltz for Debby

Every chord, every cadence, every melody, even every single note, when played by Bill Evans, is a pure dream of sensitivity and almost meditative virtuosity.

The live recordings on 1961’s ‚Waltz for Debby‘‚ are not the second best selection from this session, which is already on ‘Sunday at the Village Vanguard‘ emphatically inspiring. But the selection is testimony to the fact that each piece interpreted by Mr. Evans is incredibly close, intense and amazingly beautiful.

The record is the fourth on Riverside Records of the Bill Evans Trio with Paul Motian and the last with the exceptional bassist Scott LaFaro, who died in a tragic car accident not long after the gig. If I could only listen to one more song, my whole life long – ‘My foolish heart’ would be on my list.
