Table No. 5452 by George Nelson
Pedestal occasional coffee table no. 5452 by George Nelson
The versatile classic, designed by George Nelson in 1954, was initially produced in two sizes with black or white legs and table plates made from chipboard, the edge of the table covered with birch wood, with white or grey hard plastic finish. In 1961 the variant with the aluminium base was added.
And then, of course, there are the exceptions. Like this small table here, which is a real rarity, because the table top is not made of pressed chipboard as usual, but built up from many individual layers of veneer.
And equally special about this little table is that the tabletop is very probably made of American walnut veneer. These tables were produced in a small series in the early 1970s and today everything is possible with this one.
