From the „Swinging Sixties“ straight into the 21st century: the Platner Collection for Knoll International is an iconic furniture series, extremely recognisable and a bit „Hollywood-like“.

Maybe that’s why as early as 1968, cult detective Peter Falk alias Lieutenant Columbo chilled out in Platner’s ‘Easy Chair’– and most recently the chairs flew around Daniel Craig’s ears in the final restaurant scene of “Quantum of Solace”.

Designed by American architect and designer Warren Platner in 1966, the tables and chairs were each made from hundreds of nickel-plated steel rods. The production process is extremely laborious and lengthy, as each rod is welded by hand.

Platner has had a long and productive career, but the Platner Chair is one of its most enduring designs. The line has been produced continuously by Knoll International for nearly fifty years since its introduction in 1966, except the Loveseats (the 2-seater sofa from the series) that is out of production since 1970.
