Folding furniture is practical. But while a „Safarichair“ somehow associates big game hunting, these Italian „Poltroncine Pieghevoli“ bring a certain „sprezzatura“. A kind of cool effortlessness, while being in the know.

In Italian design, nobody represents that elegant style better than Gio Ponti (1891-1979), architect and designer, founder of ‚domus‘ magazine, director of the Milan Triennale and professor at the Politecnico Milano. From the Pirelli skyscraper, the Pavoni coffee machine to the Superleggera chair – his designs were always about elegance and innovation.

Here we have two „Ninfea“ folding chairs designed by Ponti in 1958 for Fratelli Reguitti. An elegant couple that cuts just as good a figure in a bungalow’s living room as on the roof terrace of a palazzo Milanese.
