Bobby Pierce – Introducing Bobby Pierce

Bobby Pierce – Introducing Bobby Pierce

‚Introducing’ is just one of two LPs I know of by Mr. Pierce, who was organist for Clarence Wheeler and the Enforcers in 1972, at the time of recording. A real little jewel with grooving tracks, a very nice organ-vocals combination on Mr. Pierce and a Pat Martino who plays himself powerful, but not too much in the foreground. The highlight of the record is ‘Think’, which had already received special treatment from Lonnie Smith on Blue Note, here from Mr. Pierce it comes across even more hypnotic.

First I heard the track in a club in Hamburg (very) many years ago, together with my vinyl dealer at that time (Hello, Josef!), who, like me, couldn’t assign this interpretation. The research up to Mr. Pierce turned out to be difficult because we were still in the pre-Internet phase. But it was all the more exciting as we finally got it out of our system.
