On the Ovation label, which was well known for Country, Rock and Pop, this great compilation by Doug and Jean Carn was released with Spiritual Jazz tracks already published on the legendary Black Jazz label.

I assume this was probably meant to show a more mainstream audience the way to higher enlightenment. Maybe that’s the reason for the title ‘Higher Ground’, which doesn’t refer to Stevie Wonder, but to a complex composition by Doug Carn.

Either way – essential jazz, with world-class musicians.
