Miles Davis – Milestones

Miles Davis – Milestones

Miles Davis’ decision to expand his already legendary quintet to a sextet with Cannonball Adderley resulted in groundbreaking music. Impressively comprehensible on Milestones from 1958, certainly a well-known record for every jazz aficionado.

Bebop, jazz standards, experimentation with modal structures, the Sheets of Sound of Mr. Coltrane, the added blues of Mr. Adderley, the best rhythm section of the time swinging and grooving like clockwork – a real milestone in jazz history.

Mr. Davis was 32 years old during the recording and had really come a long way since his first steps at 13 on a trumpet given to him by his father. His sense that not only the best-playing accompanists are good enough, but those who in turn are on their way to revolutionary music, is what makes the music so vibrant even after many decades.

Here, people not only simply play together at the highest level, but also work together on their own visions for the next evolution. Essential for every collection.
