Art Ensemble of Chicago with Fontella Bass

Art Ensemble of Chicago with Fontella Bass

I found this great record on a flea market last week: Art Ensemble of Chicago, a legendary jazz group, made a significant mark in France during the ’70s. Their mission to push the boundaries of jazz and create circular musical experiences mesmerized audiences, making them popular in the French jazz scene.

They spent a considerable amount of time touring throughout France, collaborating with other French artists, and even starred in films. Their innovative approach and experimental sound left an indelible impression on the French music scene and continue to inspire new generations of jazz musicians.

Both sides start with drums and percussion: Don Moye approaches the drums as a means of expressing his creativity and often takes a lead role in the ensemble. With the powerful voice of American Soul star Fontella Bass the Chicago ensemble plays music that represents another interpretation of Black Power. Free, beautiful and challenging.
